From the Burrow: Watch for Falling Rocks?   Leave a comment

The men say today is ‘falling back’ and there’s extra time in the day. I don’t know about anything that gives extra time in the day, but sometimes if you fall off a rock backwards, you wish you had extra time to remember not to fall off the rock. Maybe that’s what the men mean. But I almost never see men fall off a rock.

And now, just before the cold-time comes, leaves fall off the trees but I don’t think that makes time any different. If you sit quietly and watch the leaves fall, sometimes it feels like time is slow, but I don’t think it really makes any more time. But sitting and watching leaves fall, or birds dig for bugs (how do they eat those things?), or most anything else that helps you understand about the forest and the meadows and the world is so much fun, time doesn’t seem that important.

The men say they have to set their clocks and watches back for the extra time. I don’t know what a ‘clock’ is, but it’s always good to watch for anything that might be in back of you. There might be a friend following you, or someone trying to surprise you, or even a wolf-dog or something dangerous, and you never want that behind you. So if the men are watching their back for wolf-dogs, I guess that’s smart. Even though nothing seems to be dangerous to men, except maybe other men.

So if you’re one of the men and are reading this, remember to watch your clock falling back or whatever you do. If you’re a marmot and are hearing this, I don’t think there’s anything you have to do special. Except maybe be extra-careful not to fall off any rocks.
